Masks in Venice
The Canival of Venice is a unique happening, truly. And it can be experienced at several different levels, by the way not in conflict with one other. I find the least structured (and least “structurable”) the most interesting way to live it: simply “being there”. It’s priceless to wander around in costume (and mask) Venice’s tiny streets, to pose for tourists who “admire but do not dare”, to create “movie-like” scenes with other randomly met masked people in this incredible natural scenography that is Venice. And all that is free. But it’s also part of the game (and pleasure) to participate in the most interesting (and authentic) Carnival balls, in the afternoons in the historical cafes, to go for the hot chocolate in the palazzi, to get a photo shooting in an atelier. And also to get professional make-up, to add accessories to your outfit, to try on new costumes for parties with different themes. And maybe also to lodge in (fantastic) private apartments, where you can invite your friends and why not improvise a dinner for everyone. All this is also priceless, and, for me, is the real soul of this very special Carnival. To be able to live it this way, it’s enough to know what goes on, where it happens... and to be in Venice!
